How to pray the rosary

Friday 13 September 2024, Holy Trinity Parish, Durban

The Pauline Cooperators collaborated with the catechism class at the Holy Trinity parish to discuss with the youth about the rosary.  This was a mixed group of already-confirmed, to be confirmed candidates, and alter servers.

The participants learned on the rosary as a prayer, as well as its biblical traces.  A Bible quiz was conducted to test the youth's knowledge and understanding with regard to the Bible.

It was evident that another meeting must be prepared as feedback to the Bible quiz.

Audio Mass Reading

As the year 2020 started, the Pauline Cooperators began to plan their missionary activities. A pilot project was the Audio Mass Reading. Here, the Cooperators would meet around a table to record Sunday readings for mass following the order in the missal. Then, the audio clips will be distributed on different social media platforms. While the idea was exciting, it came with challenges. We foresaw that a recording studio, audio editing technician, logistics and budget were required. We didn't have any of this! However, we still had hope. We believed we could start small like "Jesus in the manger"...  The new approach was to use our usual meeting room in the convent of the Pauline sisters. We ensured the windows were closed to limit noise penetration and wind circulation from outside. The sisters helped us to purchase a podcast microphone.  A laptop, a free and easy-to-manipulate audio editing software, was the equipment we decided to use. And so, with the merciful help of God, we managed to release the first Audio Mass Reading on the first Sunday of Lent Year A (01 March 2020). The cooperators committed to this apostolate throughout the Lenten period, the holy week, and Eastertide.  The last audio clip was released on the 7th Sunday of Easter (24 May 2020).

This project came just at the right time. A lockdown due to COVID-19 was imposed in 2020. People could not go to mass.  So a project like this Audio Mass Reading, even so amateur, played a role of evangelisation at the right time.

Come and See

Pope Francis's message for the 2021 World Day of Social Communications was titled "Come and See (Jn 1:46). Communicating by Encountering People Where and as They Are".  The Pauline Cooperators initiated a project to promote this event. They had to meet to read and analyse the message of the Pope. By God's grace, they developed an animated explainer video in two languages: English and isiZulu.  Although made of amateur means, the content was rich and informative. The material was shared with the people over social media platforms. It was pleasing to watch, according to feedback received from many people. See the YouTube links below.  The script can be found here.

Bible Questionnaire

Another apostolic initiative was to promote and encourage the people of God to read the Bible. The Pauline cooperators planned first to consult other people to learn from themselves the difficulties they may have with the Bible. By the grace of God, they arranged to launch an online survey called Bible Questionnaire between February and April 2022.  The responses were analysed and formed an inspirational resource to create missionary initiatives to resolve the issues Christians, especially the Catholics, may have with the Bible. Biblical education was identified as needed to assist people in easing their difficulties with the Bible.

Three Pillars of our apostolate

The Pauline cooperators plan their apostolate in three working groups. Each pillar was assigned to a team leader to manage the projects.
